RAYMOND – Ӱ graduated the first class of electrical line workers on Dec. 5 since beginning the program in August 2024.

Fourteen students graduated from the 16-week noncredit workforce program.

Receiving certificates were, front from left, Thomas Taylor of Byram, Kashton Sorrell of Pisgah, Jordan Holt of Byram, William Hall of Pearl, Leland Bernal of Pearl, Jacob Walker of Pearl, Zaccaeus McFarland of Pearl; back row, instructor Craig Davis of Raymond, Hunter Barrett of Pisgah, Breland Moore of Jackson, Michael Delgrado of Benton, Franco Whisenton of Yazoo City, Hunter Crutchfield of Clinton, Jalin Ratcliff of Clinton, Chrisden Jones of Utica.

“These young people represent our first electrical line worker class, and they have really been special to us. You would think that we actually hand-picked them. Well, we did. We had 23vapplicants and out of that 23, we picked the 16. We interviewed each one of them before they started the program. They each exhibited qualities we felt were a good fit for this type of program and profession. They have not disappointed us, and we are very proud,” said Jason Webb, Career Technical Education Dean of Construction and Manufacturing.

Instructor Craig Davis said the students learned a variety of skills including CPR as well as climbing poles and solving electrical problems. All earned a Commercial Driver’s License and Occupation Safety & Health (OSHA) certificates as part of the program.

“It was a pleasure working with these guys,” he said. “They have a very good work ethic. They are great young men, and I believe every one of them is going to be successful in whatever they do.”
