Porsha Gatson of Vicksburg was named Miss Ӱ 2014 in the annual pageant on Jan. 16.
As Miss Ӱ, Gatson will participate this summer in the Miss Mississippi pageant.
Gatson is a sophomore on the Raymond Campus majoring in nursing. Some of her scholastic honors include Who’s Who, Dean’s List, and Honor Society. She is also a member of the Hi-Steppers.
Her platform is “Children Matter,” a program focusing on providing activities, tutoring and meals to children in need.
For her talent she performed an excerpt from the song “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”
First runner-up was Jade Dalton of Flora, a freshman majoring in philosophy on the Raymond Campus.
Second runner up was Anna Taggart of Raymond, a sophomore elementary education major on the Raymond Campus.
