鈥淭he night was so surreal. It was confirmation of all my hard work and I could not have done it without the help of my instructor and my WHUC News 7 team. It was just a blessing to see our hard work prevail.鈥
Her record of service is 42 years and counting, as she continues to serve as a part-time instructor in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department.
鈥淏eing chosen for something like this makes me feel that my hard work is paying off as I鈥檝e been attending 蜜桃影像 as a full-time student and working part-time in the Student Services area on the Raymond campus since last summer,鈥
Ashby is among three student speakers in as many ceremonies May 12 inside the Muse Center on the Rankin Campus.
鈥淚 was one of seven kids growing up, so I鈥檝e always been around them,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 love seeing those little 鈥榓-ha鈥 moments when they figure something out and get interested in learning. I was homeschooled and helped my mom teach my siblings.
Bolton has attended 蜜桃影像 on three scholarships and is president of the Alpha Iota Kappa chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society at the Jackson Campus-Nursing/Allied Health Center.
鈥淚鈥檝e always been a mechanic, but I鈥檇 love to learn more about these,鈥 Barrett said. 鈥淪o I thought I鈥檇 鈥榞o big鈥 and attend the program here.鈥
She 鈥渆ncourages her students to try new things, form ideas that challenge them and use collaboration to gain new perspectives.鈥
About 160 works of art were considered for this year鈥檚 contest, which was judged by Jacob Rowan, assistant professor of art at Belhaven University.
鈥淥ur goal is to provide students a way to connect with businesses in the same place they attend classes,鈥 Allen said. 鈥淐urrently, there are more jobs available than people to fill them and the opportunity for motivated students is at an all-time high.
